History

Unit 4 Agresso was founded 1980 as 'Unit 4'. The new company distinguished itself through two innovations: the delivery of standard software and a broad approach to business automation.

Thanks to these innovations Unit 4 rapidly became market leader in the field of financial administrative software for small and medium sized businesses in the Netherlands. This role was then taken over by new entrants on the market who could fully focus on the fast growing DOS-market while Unit 4 had to adapt its software to the different operating systems used by its customers.

New course
At the beginning of the nineties Unit 4 changed its course:

  • It chose Windows as its development platform. The result was Multivers for Windows, the first financial administrative application for Windows in the Benelux.
  • It purchased a third party application, Audition, which meant an important breakthrough on the accountancy market.
  • It entered the security market with the take-over of Data Alert International.

Listing Unit 4
From that time onwards Unit 4 grew fast. In 1998 Unit 4 decided to go public, gaining the capital it needed to finance take-overs. Some companies that were taken over by the Unit 4 group: Acoso, Omegon, X-Logic and Digis.

Internationalisation
In 2000 Unit 4 took an important step towards internationalisation through the merger with the Norwegian company Agresso. Agresso operated worldwide with its application AGRESSO Business World and complemented Unit 4?s activities that were focussed on the Benelux market.
